Island Packet 38, Dignity

The boat we know today as Salty Shores was named Dignity by her first owner.

She was build in 1986, by Island Packet Yachts, in Florida. This was the first attempt by IPY to build a larger cruising boat. Dignity, at the time, was bought by a gentleman from Long Island, New York. In 1993, he left her in the boat yard at Virgin Gorda, BVI. In  2000, he donated her to the Boys Scouts of America. Not knowing the value or how to sale the boat, they called IPY in Florida, who in turn put them in touch with the  Island Packet dealer in the USVI, Island Yachts in Red Hook, St. Thomas.

Jim, actual owner  and Captain of Salty Shores, had been chartering from Island Yacht for numbers of years, and had over time built a good friendship with the owners, Skip and Andrea King. Skip gave Jim a call and said this might be a great opportunity to get a good boat at less than market value.

But after several years of been abandoned in the boat yard, the cost and labor of restoring Dignity was far beyond the original dream. Despite being warned by his boat knowledgeable friends about the scope of the project, Jim brought Dignity back to life with a new name.
